OK, so you finally sat down, made a list, set some goals, made a task list and you’re chomping at the bit to get started. Exciting times.
Unfortunately, things don’t always go as planned. Hey, I’m not hoping you fail… I’m just saying. Like Mike Tyson says, “Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the mouth” So let’s just make you aware of some of the things that can go wrong… so that if they pop up you are better prepared to deal with them.
Association – Conditioning – Who Do You Hang Out With?
I’m not telling you to just ditch all your friends, but just be aware that putting the world to rights after a few beers in your local every night can affect how you think about things, and ultimately the actions you take.
You start out in life with many dreams and ambitions but, along the way, you get hurt, and maybe your family and friends want to protect you from being hurt again. They make negative comments, and as a result, you listen to them and give up trying.
That’s why you should be careful about who you share your goals with. Associate with people who share your vision, or at least keep the dodos in a separate box.
You Can’t Do It Alone
For the small initial goals, you probably should do it alone, and build up your confidence. But as we start getting into the important stuff… Maybe you think you can, I mean, you got this far right.
And how far is that exactly?
Is that a tough question?
I don’t mean to be rude… Depending on how ambitious your goals are, maybe you can. But you only have the same 24 hours as I do.
I like to get a bit confrontational at times, it was beaten into me by the Mentors I experienced the most success with. They made me uncomfortable. They challenged me, made me angry, and made me do things I didn’t want to do, at the most inconvenient times.
URGENCY
They knew what they were doing.
If you want to change some things in your life, you need to change some things in your life.
That’s another great cliché, right?
Like the one about doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.
Think about it like this…
If you’re setting goals that you CAN reach on your own, maybe they aren’t big enough. Real progress towards a large goal requires leverage, whether that’s in time or other resources.
Start by including your closest friend or life partner, having them on your side will make a world of difference. Then look for specialists and mentors who can fill gaps in your knowledge and experience.
Things Don’t Always Go To Plan – Murphy’s Law
If something can go wrong, it normally does.
It’s another reason why the goal needs to be big, and medium to long-range. You have to be able to pivot sometimes, plan B, plan C… as long as the goal is important, and big enough to make a large positive change in your life, you will find a way around the problems.
You may need to ask for help. That’s ok.
The end result is what’s important. As long as the goal remains bigger than the problems, you won’t lose sight of it.
